What Do We Do?

Live/Location recording

Overdubs

Editing and mixing

Transfer and/or restoration of old projects

home-run was set up when I realised most of the work on a project takes place in the control room and not the studio. While we can record overdubs here, when a larger recording session is needed we can go to a studio, or somewhere that inspires you.

Not having the expense of a studio, we can work at our own pace while using the same equipment as if we were.

If you want to record somewhere out of the ordinary, we have that covered. We can record your show or track in a space that has a special meaning for you, even your bedroom, if you like!

 How Do We Do It?

home-run is exactly what the name suggests, it's run from home, but it's no ordinary room. Based around an Avid C24 for total control of Pro Tools, and Logic, and 48 channels of I/O, there is enough for the most complex of ventures. The room is acoustically treated too, so you only hear what's actually happening and there’s a nice view outside.

Over the years I’ve gathered a great selection of stuff! From industry standard microphones to some boutique compressors and EQs, there is something for nearly every likelihood.

If you are needing to record outside of the norm, we have 32 channels of I/O and mic pres to cover most scenarios as well as a mic split so we can work alongside your crew without getting in the way.

 Why Do We Do It?

Andrew has over thirty years experience as a sound engineer both in studio and in live environments and has comprehensive knowledge of both digital and analogue technologies.

The first studio he was a partner in was Mediate Recording which operated from 1989 until 1997. This is where his recording & mixing skills were learned and many of the people he worked with then are still with him today. After Mediate closed he worked primarily at Marmalade Audio, one of Wellingtons most iconic studios. This was a big step up in terms of equipment as he got to use a large format console, a 2 inch, 24 track tape machine and possibly the best mic collection on offer at the time.

Australia was next where Andrew toured extensively with Fur Patrol as their live sound engineer and had other work as a Tour Manager.

Back in New Zealand in 2006 he set up another studio with Mike Gibson called Trident Sound Studios which lasted until 2009.

After another stint at Marmalade and as the need for full time studio space became less important, he moved to working from home and home-run was born.

At home-run he has built a hybrid system that uses both plugins and analogue outboard equipment.

Andrew has run his own businesses for most of his career, both in New Zealand and Australia, something that has required proaction and self motivation in finding and retaining clients. He’s worked with a wide range of people, from amateurs facing a microphone for the first time, to world class musicians, or hobbyists who just wanted to record a song for fun.

There is nothing like working in a big studio with lots of musicians playing their hearts out, or working one on one in sessions where something magical happens that energises everyone in the room.

There are always new stories to be told and being a part of that process is why we’re here.

The bulk of Andrew's industry experience has been with music, but he’s just as at home with voice over recording for commercials and TV. He’s also had the opportunity to work on the sound mixes for film soundtracks and create soundscapes and effects for theatre productions.
